What to Expect at your First Lesson
I will have the student's instruction books and assignment binder ready at the first lesson. Students will learn proper posture and hand position. We will introduce the keyboard, one or two simple songs and how to practice at home. We will also set our weekly goal.
What to Expect at Subsequent Lessons
While making learning how to read music and playing the piano fun, we spend time playing what the student practiced at home and doing activities in music theory, sight reading, aural training, music history and composition.
What to Expect at Home
When it comes to practice at home, I believe in consistency and quality rather than quantified time at the bench. I teach the students how to practice effectively and encourage daily piano playing to strive to reach weekly goals and to be prepared for the next lesson. Our goal is to make progress each week as we learn to read the musical language and how to express ourselves through that language.
Recitals and opportunities to perform
I currently hold one recital in the Spring. Public performances give the students a big goal to work toward. Playing publicly helps to build confidence in their playing as well as in their public speaking. More performance opportunities are added periodically .
